Just ran into this:
http://www.olympicsource.org/index.htm

Quote

SINCE THE DIRECTOR OF THIS PUBLIC OLYMPIC MUSEUM IS GOING TO RETIRE AFTER SERVING FOR 30 YEARS, WE ARE LOOKING FOR AN ORGANIZATION, A MUSEUM, OR A GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT IS INTERESTED TO OBTAIN AN OLYMPIC COLLECTION OF OVER 20,000 ITEMS DATING FROM 1896 TO 2010, INCLUDING ALL MODERN SHOWCASES, AT AN UNBEATABLE PRICE. TO CONTACT US, USE OUR EMAIL ADDRESS OR TELEPHONE #. IF IT IS SOLD BY AN AGENCY, WE ARE WILLING TO PAY 5% WHEN SOLD.

All I got to say, after looking thru some of the photos, that is one heck of a collection! B) If only I had the $$.

I was just looking thru the photos on that site and he's got the Share the Flame torch relay book from the Calgary '88 games. I've been trying to find that book here for quite awhile now and no luck. I do have the other two Calgary '88 books.

He's got a photo there of a bunch of magazines and books from the Berlin games. That would be interesting to see.

Just like Indiana Jones said in Last Crusade "It belongs in a a museum!" A great place for this collection would be at the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame at the Calgary Olympic Park. They have a nice collection there, but nowhere near as big as this. B)

Why doesn't that guy sell his collection to the L.A. '84 Foundation? They have the library there. I think they would be interested.
It's the Olympic Winter Games (OWG) NOT "Winter Olympic Games' (WOG <----- NO NO NO!)

They would seem to be a logical heir; but their space is limited + I think their main purpose is a resource center than as a museum. THe few displays they have there are merely incidental.

Am trying to interest BASOC and the USOC to buy the collection and set up a museum here in SF (which could be shared with a few other cities) w/ the USOC owning the artifacts. Haven't heard back yet.

Problem is, SF has never host an Olympic Games yet. L.A. would be a more logical choice. It's kind of like the Walt Disney Family museum opening up in the Presidio. Only there because Disney's daughter lives in Napa Valley. Otherwise, doesn't make sense.

Yeah, but whakkinda foot traffic do u get in LA? Zero.

See, I was thinking this would go up right beside the WD Family Museum (great synergy there) or if they can find the right space at Fisherman's Wharf.
