The stands look even smaller than Singapore's. Have a feeling it will be very Cirque du Soleil.
Haha I was just thinking of that too. I am surprised they didn't build a bigger one considering the scale of these games. Even the stage looks pretty small, unless they are using the entire area beyond the light posts?

I saw in the news about the India 2010 fiasco, that the Chinese have already completed all venues and facilities (which I presume includes the OC venue above) and they have all been handed over to the OCA...when the games are held only in November.

A 11 minute video of the rehearsals, recorded by some guy outside the island. You can barely hear the music, and at some point you can see some performers and a boat. However because of the perspective we still have no idea of whats really happening (although for some pics i've seen it appears that something is going to rise from below the main stage, kinda a la Beijing/Athens), besides the awesome fountain effects which are going to be the highlight of this opening ceremony).

This is a general question: what if an athlete participated in a multi-sport event, but skip (refuse to attend) the Opening/Closing Ceremonies?
My Ranking of the 2018 Winter Olympic candidates cities:

1. Pyeongchang, Republic of Korea
2. Munich, Germany
3. Annecy, France

There is no penalty. Many athletes (especially those who have events the next day) do not march in the Opening Ceremony. Many athletes leave the Games as soon as their events are completed - thus many miss the Closing Ceremony. It is up to the athlete and the coaches whether or not it is acceptible for an athlete to march. If an athlete refuses that is fine. They are missing out on what could be a once in a lifetime event - but they are at the event to compete. I heard that a few athletes did not want to march in the Beijing or Delhi openings due to personal beliefs - it happens.

Normally prior to a ceremony the athletes are housed in a nearby tunnel or arena - sometime for hours before they march. Then some events have the athletes standing on the field for hours. It can be quite stressful.

Now back to the ceremonies - it looks amazing. After Doha's amazing shows in 2006 it does seem the Asian Games are really taking it to the Olympics in regards to spectacle. I am sure the Koreans will do something awe inspiring in Incheon in 2014.

Then they cannot jerk off for the rest of the meet!!

But I will gladly go in their place!!
