I don't know if the news reports are right but the America's Cup has been won supposedly by Oracle and it is now headed back to the USA?

Reports are starting to come out that San Francisco Bay may host the next America's Cup regatta?

Does anyone who understands the tournament more confirm whether the battle is indeed over and the Cup is back to the shores where it belongs???

It does seem to be the case! Congratulations Mon Baron!

And not to be churlish - but it does seem a bit of a farce that it was won in only a best-of-three race challenge that seemed to spend more time in the courtroom than on the water. But then again, I suppose that's the Americas Cup tradition.

Great to see Alinghi beaten! Congrats to Oracle for winning the cup. HOpefully we can get back to some traditional Americas Cup racing! Lets hope the court cases are over as well.

Haha!

Yes the next event will surely be held in SF given the location of the defending yacht club.

Well, actually, I;d imagine it'll be in Pacific waters, rather than the Atlantic off Rhode Island ... or the English Channel off Cowes.

I think this can go in the 'who the $#@^' cares file. The America's Cup lost any interest after Oz II in 83 or maybe if you want to stretch it the defence and recapture 4 years later. It's like that first beer you have after being on the wagon or having no access to the grog. The first is like nectar, the second is okay and the third is not even counted...

Oh, OK. I wondered where the various actual races on water were happening? And I thought this was reserved for the summer months? But I guess that's the answer.

Oh good, now I can also sell my America's Cup game board with that Connor guy's signature.

The America's Cup is the oldest regularly occurring sporting event/trophy/race in the world. It is effectively the worlds first professional sports trophy. It predates the Olympic and FA Cup. It is an incredibly important event and possibly the most prestigious in the world.

I hope the New York Yacht Club challenges again soon. They haven't done so since loosing the Cup to Australia II and Royal Perth Yacht Club. Surely a competitor from the club will inject a great deal of life back into the event.
