Today the FISU take the decission to award Harbin for 2009 Winter Universiade and Belgrade with the Summer Universiade in the same year.

Edmonton is in. Here's a quote from the Edmonton Journal from yesterday.....
"Mayor Stephen Mandel said he was pleased to hear people praise Edmonton's facilities and delighted with the life the event injected into the city.
Now, he said, Edmonton is pursuing the 2011 Universiade Games and is talking to masters groups about other events, such as major track and field meets."

In the interim between Universiades (summer ones, I think), the FISU likes to have world university championships in various sports on the even years. Here's the following that the FISU has given out to various cities around the world:

If Hamilton can't hold all the events, then other municipalities near by can such as Toronto which has quite a few venues.

Very sad news for Izmir 2005. The mayor of Izmir and president of the 2005 Summer Universiade organizing committee has passed away suddenly. Now what for the city and the organizers??

Belgrade bid for 1992 as well in the aftermath of Sarajevo 1984. Got more votes than Birmingham.
