It is about 3 months left for interested cities to apply for either the Summer or Winter Universiade for 2009.

Well, it is a month from now before all bids for either the 2009 Winter or the 2009 Summer Universiade must be handed in to the FISU.

Has Sofia ever considered bidding for a Universiade after 1983 and 1989?

Guardian, you took it the wrong way.  I'm just wondering why you're pushing the Universiades here heavily.  I know of them but they're not really strong on my radar.

Yes, I know this is category is "Other International Games"  -- did I say it didn't belong here?  I was just curious; that's all.  THere was no sarcasm intended in the previous post.

Curious, huh? Well, if you put it that way, some members have posted that having a Universiade could have Olympic implications. However, as you can see, it is not really the case in most terms. Also, with the Universiades themselves, it seems that a couple of continents with cities/towns that really want them and vice versa.

To be honest, what would a Universiade really do for the USA? I don't see any positive things about it, especially if it has hosted the most Olympic Games so far and more to come in the future.

As for other countries, the Universiade could be the highest level international sporting event they could ever get. It's sad for now, but that could change, depending on what happens to the sporting world in the future.

So, is it today that the decision will be made?  Or is it just the evaluation report is out??

Is it Harbin or Erzurum?

Is it Belgrade, Poznan or Monterrey?

I read in the Edmonton Sun today that Edmonton will be bidding for the 2011 Universiade.  Also noted in the article that Montreal and Taiwan are also bidding.

Does anyone know the news on the whole Canadian Bidding for the 2011 Universiades?
No concrete news that I'm aware of yet. I assume that there will be a bid somewhere, but it is not set in stone.
