Hi, guys. Long time no message here. Now that the 2009 Universiades have been given away, the race for the 2011 versions begins.

I don't know whether Calgary or another Canadian city will try to host one or not in the future.

The time is almost here. We'll see how Izmir does at the Summer Universiade.

Are these Games still interesting? Hardly any coverage and some sports are lacking serious competitors...

It seems that Sofia bidded for the 2003 Winter Universiade:

The USA should seriously consider this as well. LA would be a suitable place for a Summer Universiade, with many of the events at the Home Depot Center. :wwww:
The USA has only hosted one Summer and one Winter Universiade each. With Lake Placid 1972 (winter) and Buffalo 1993 (summer) so far, the country has potential to host more of these Games.

One question and it is a controversial one: can Hamilton handle the Summer Universiade? It has grown, like the Olympic Games. Perhaps it could handle it, I don't know.

Before bid of 2014WOG,Harbin China maybe apply for 2009 Winter Universiade.
It is possible that Harbin could win the bid for the 2009 Winter Universiade. Let's wait and see, if there are other bids come forward.

Very brief, but well-known already, details about bids for the 2009 Universiades (winter and summer):

Is Erzurum 2009 a preparation for an Olympic bid?
I doubt it.

As for Belgrade, is it the city's first time for a Universiade bid? I do remember vaguely that the Serbian city tried an Olympic bid once.
