However, the FIRST city that got evaluated for wanting to host the 2013 Summer Universiade was VIGO, SPAIN. It was evaluated by the FISU back on April 18-20.

Even though MARIBOR, SLOVENIA, is going to get the nod to host the 2013 Winter Universiade by default because it was the only city/area that put forward a bid for it, the city was evaluated anyway just before the Vigo one.

The last scenario that needs to be played out here is the awarding of both the 2013 Summer and Winter Universiade on May 31st.

Oooooooooooooooo!! :o I love that Maribor logo (minus the "We Are ready" slogan). That's what a sports event logo should be -- not some of the garbage we see these days!!

Hey _ how did I get to be listed as topic starter for this thread? I've never been remotely interested in the universiades in my life?!

Must be an error of the computer software, when the forums changed from its old format to this current one, Roltel.

Anyway, Russia gets to host the 2013 Summer Universiade and giving it, from the former USSR, the nation's second one. Of course, these Games and Sochi 2014 will be just a few months apart from each other. As for Maribor, it was pretty much a given here. Onward to the 2015 bid race.

Well, it seems that the same candidate cities that didn't win to host a Universiade in the past is in it again for 2015. Here are the official candidate cities for 2015:

- Rio or Brasilia, BRAZIL;
- Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA;
- Taipei, CHINESE TAIPEI;
- Gwangju, KOREA;
- Poznan, POLAND; and,
- Vigo or Grenada, SPAIN.
