I guess Lima will bid again, and Mar del Plata has announced their intention to bid also.
I don't know if Santiago will bid, but certainly it could be a really good option and probably a front-runner after all the changes for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2008 (the new Bicentennial Stadium), the almost-certain Copa América 2015 (the total renovation of the National Stadium) and the 2014 South American Games.

SANTIAGO 2019

The Games return to South America, for the first time in Chile.

Santiago will be good but let's first wait and see if they'll actually stage a multisports event (2014 South American Games). I believe their withdrawals after being awarded the 1975 and 1987 PanAms and the recent 2006 South American Games will make some people hesitate on electing the chilean capital.
"Oh, And the rain tossed about us, in the garden of the world, But a flame arrives to guide us, cast in gold between the anvils of the stars. Watch you over all your children in the rain, and the streets where I remember, Where the fire lights are candle souls again. Affirming flame, hear me call. Through the darkness, hear it call to us all. And stir again. This beating heart, come to care.
Oh, And the light drive out our fears, And the joy drive out our pain, And the nations come to greet us, waving open arms like waves of golden corn. Ever hear us, oh the spirit; of the world. May your light be ever near us, Always lead us from the dark, though we may fall. We will fly. And with love, ever call."

I sure hope Santiago bids - it seems like Chile has been long shy of bidding for anything.

2006 South American Games?
I think Chile is the second most prosperous economy in South America (after Brazil) in this decade. Chile is stable and it is developing fast. I am sure that they are capable to host the Pan Ams.

Yup. Santiago gave up hosting rights to Buenos Aires in 2006. And bidding is not only about economy or stability or charming cities as we all know. Chile can show itself a little more in the sports scene hosting summer and winter sports championships and become a hot spot of the American South Pacific.
