I've started the project of transferring my vhs tapes to DVD. As a fan of the Olympics for a long time, many of my recordings are of the various Olympic Games. I also have lots of figure skating, gymnastics and various other sports.

In order to keep track of things I have started a web page to organize my new recordings. Old Videos This project is ongoing and it will take me a loong time to transfer all my tapes.

My big achievement so far is transferring all my coverage of the 1992 Barcelona Games. Next week I will add that last of some 120 hours of coverage, including a great deal of triplecast coverage. All this coverage is in a raw form - no commercials are bleeped and sometimes I switched back and forth from NBC to Triplecast. The picture quality is very good, with a few noted exceptions.

My next Olympic project will be to add all my 2004 HD coverage. NBC had different - expanded - coverage on HD. NOTE - I didn't record in HD. I just got the HD programming. *By the way, if anyone has recordings of the HD programming for the Salt Lake Games, I would love to know about it*

If I have anything you are interested in, please contact me at the website.

I believe Athens'04 was the FIRST Games broadcast in HD so you won't find any Salt Lake broadcasts in HD.

I wish that were true. However, NBC did broadcast special HD coverage in 2002. I think it must have been a sort of experiment. I didn't find out about it until the very end of the games when it was too late to arrange for anyone to record it for me. According to the engineers at the local NBC affiliate (who were kind enough to try to explain it for me) NBC broadcast whole competitions with no commentary and no commercial interruptions. The entire figure skating competition was broadcast, for example. I have found people who watched it over the years but I haven't ever found anyone who recorded it.

The sports that where filmed in HD in Salt Lake are Ice Hockey, Short Track, Long Track, Ski Jumping and of coarse Figure Skating, all in glorius 1080i 5.1 audio channels (I doubt I have ever said this here, but I am a complete resolution snob...). I too am longing to see some of the SLC HD, but so far no luck. HDNet was broadcasting 8 hours a day of HD during the Salt Lake games, so if anybody has any contacts whit them...

Anyway, from what I heard NHK actually had some HD coverage from Barcelona... Now, THAT would be quite a score from an Olympic collector...

Not only that, but I discovered that the EBU also did HD in Barcelona for the benefit of showing the game live in theaters (article here: http://www.ebu.ch/en..._254-romero.pdf ). Yes folks, the Dream Team exists in HD!

Very cool. Have you ever tried to contact EBU to see if they might someday make it available? You're right, it would be a collectors dream.

Just an FYI for anyone interested.

I plan to record as much U.S. coverage as I can of the Vancouver Olympics. I have access to all the NBC channels as well as Universal. Figure Skating is my highest priority but if anyone is interested in recordings of other sports, now is the time to contact me - oldvideos

- I do have access to HD coverage and can record HD on my DVR, BUT, I cannot copy in HD.

- I do not have to ability to send files online. I'm offering DVD copies (or even VHS).

In New Zealand I am still to decide what to record as there are 900 hours over 4 channels of dedicated olympic coverage. I will record as much live stuff as I can as well as the 2 hour nightly highlight packages and the 1 hour olympic news bulletins each night! Getting excited now :)
