Don't mean to ride you Augie. Your new and keen and all, but, well, some of us have had these same arguments over and over and over. There's a few things most of us come to accept after a while.

1. We all probably have our favourite exotic "new frontier" host or hosts we'd love to see. Most are never going happen. The Olympics are a big deal and difficult to host. All cities have to jump through lots of hurdles to land them. The IOC tend to err on the side of caution on most occassions.

2. Nearly everybody loves the idea of a southern hemiphere winter games - especially those of us in the south! But when it comes down to practicalities, it's very unlikely either short or long term.

I will support a Cape Town bid as long as Madrid (or any other Spanish city) doesn't bid.

I visited Cape Town for 4 days last August. The city is beautiful, in a magnificent position between the mountains and the sea. The centre is not too big and there's the harbour area called "the Waterfront" that is very peaceful and a safe place to hang out in numerous restaurants, bars and shops.

I saw some townships outside the city on our way from the airport, but generally I would say that Cape Town is a safe city naturally if you use the normal precautions as in any big city of the world.

I'm sure Mo will tell you more details and facts about his/her wonderful city.

I forgot, we passed by the Green Point Stadium under construction for the World Cup. It is going to be a huge stadium in a beautiful place near the ocean and the center of the city.

Well, good news, our provincial murder rate over the last year is down 24%,but unfortunately its still high and highly concentrated in poor townships far from the central city. Robberies and hijackings are down 20%.

Really?

Are you seriously comparing The low-rent housing complexes in the Bronx to the hundreds of thousands of South African shack-dwellers whose only form of electricity is wiring a lightbulb to a disposed car battery?

That stadium is the one with a green point in the Olympic Green Cluster in Mo's photo, isn't it?
