Have just finished watching a BBC feature show on Mike Mizrahi, the Kiwi Special Events Master - think our version of Ric Birch, David Zolkwer, Don Mischer etc etc.
Was a good tv show, and at the end, alluded to the fact that he is planning the ceremonies for the 2011 Rugby world Cup. I dont think it's been made public, but he said that he was in the early stages of the planning for it, and probably not surprising since he was the man behind the *100 Percent Pure NZ* rugby ball in Paris during the 2007 World Cup.
He didnt give away too much, only saying that he wanted it to be ground breaking and different - such as maybe having it not in the stadium, but somewhere that not just 60k people can view it - but instead hundreds of thousand.
I guess the obvious solution being another mega rugby field sized stage in the Auckland Domain, such as his New Millennium eve *This is It* mega production.

Mike is probably most noted now for his work on the 2 America's Cup Parties held in Auckland, which included him flooding an Auckland Drydock in 2003.
He also has come up with recent Louis Vuitton events, and the opening ceremony of the 1999 FIFA under 17 FIFA World Cup.
Was hoping he would be the man direction rwc 2011, so will be interesting to see what he comes up with.

Here's a few shots of some of his events in NZ and around the world

I can't wait to see the city lit up with fireworks again for a major event.

Hmm, looks quite promising, and knowing that usually those kind of ceremonies before football/rugby or other sport tournaments are usually too simple and uninspiring (the ceremony for 2007 RWC was a piece of garbage compared to the spectacular one for 2003 in the Telstra Arena).

It was indeed, which surprised me.
Mike mizrahi's work has been awesome, he thinks big. The *This is It* show was great, just a shame the weather was crud. 1000 performers, a vid screen 2/3 size of a football field as a backdrop etc etc.
The coolest moment of that Americas Cup party was when two boats flew through the sky in a tacking duel, and when each of the boat skippers entered the drydock set - floating in inside their own little bottle (like little models of boats in a bottle u get)
