The problem of the 1984 Winter Games were........Yugoslavia. These were Yugoslavian Games and I doubt the current Bosnian Herzegovina government doesn't want to be reminded of these badly organized, propaganda winter games of the 'great nation of Yugoslavia'.

I think......South-America should try and place a bid for the 2018 Winter Games. The south of Chili and Argentina have much better winter sports accomodations than Sarajevo. Furthermore, there is much more garanty of snow.

I've rarely read anything bad or negative about the Sarajevo Games. If anything, they seem to be regarded well, especially because of the spirit and hospitality of the hosts. Much is often made of the dichotomy of the spirit of the city when the games were on, and the horrors that visited it afterwards.

Southern hemisphere winter games are something we've discussed long and hard here at GamesBids. A lot of us love the idea, and there's a lot of support for Chile, Argentina or New Zealand to try for it. But, there are big drawbacks and hurdles in the way _ chiefly the seasonal timing of a southern winter against the traditional winter sports calendar and the northern hemisphere TV ratings periods, and then there's the lack of winter sports tradition or success of any country in the south.

Try this thread (there's a fewb others as well):
