Disagree. The Chinese don't have nearly as many meaningful cards to play as you are imagining. They can raise visa fees for Brits and have other similar tantrums full of sound and fury signifying nothing, but nothing with teeth unless they shoot themselves in the economic foot. The Chinese won't do that. They certainly don't think they are as powerful as you think they are, though they'd love for you and others to hang on to that impression.
