Olympic History: Chicago was originally chosen to host the 1904 Olympic Games but the city gave the Games up to St. Louis because that city was hosting the World's Fair the same year. Chicago defeated Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia and Houston to win the 2016 national nomination. The United States last hosted the Winter Games in Salt Lake City on 2002 and the Summer Games in Atlanta in 1996.
