Nanjing, China Elected To Host 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games
At its 122nd Session in Vancouver Wednesday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) elected Nanjing, China to host the Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2014.
Poznan Poland, the only other candidate in the race, was defeated by a vote of 47-42. Last month Guadalajara, Mexico dropped out of the race.
The first Youth Olympic Games will be held August this year in Singapore, and the first Winter edition will be held in Innsbruck, Austria in 2012.
The Youth Olympic Games, designed for athletes aged 14-18 years, is a concept championed by IOC President Jacques Rogge as a means to move young people from their screens to playing fields.
