PyeongChang 2018 hosted an environmental sustainability workshop Wednesday that
would help PyeongChang deliver a low carbon Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Participants at the workshop included senior members of PyeongChang 2018,
leading environmental officials from non-government organizations, new and
renewable energy experts, university professors and government environment
officers.
The workshop was held to discuss and develop strategies to reduce carbon
emissions at the venues proposed by PyeongChang 2018's bid.
The workshop included specific presentations made by key experts from leading
environment and sustainability institutions, such as the Climate Change Research
Institute of Korea, the Korea Environment Institute, the Research Institute for
Gangwon, and Heerim Architects and Planners.
Byung-Nam Lee, PyeongChang 2018 Director General of Evaluation Preparation said,
"PyeongChang 2018 is committed to making environment sustainability a top
priority, and with the help of key environmental experts, we will construct and
develop venues that minimize carbon emissions and use efficient and renewable
sources of energy".
