Trail Running Event Highlights Annecy 2018
Almost 7,000 runners from 55 nations, as well as 1,700 volunteers, will be participating in the 8th edition of the North Face Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc August 24 to 29.
According to Annecy 2018, it's the only trail running event of its kind in the world which takes participants into three different countries (France, Switzerland and Italy) across seven valleys, 71 glaciers and 400 summits.
Chamonix, one of two sites named in Annecy 2018's bid, is the focal point for these races as each race starts and/or finishes in the town.
Trail running lovers, top level athletes, and amateurs were invited to participate in this "non-stop individual race around the 'rooftop of Europe'".
Edgar Grospiron, Chief Executive of Annecy 2018 said, "the North-Face Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc illustrates the region's sporting attributes, our wide experience with regards to organizing large-scale events, our volunteers' enthusiasm, and the locals passion for mountain and outdoor sports".
The Ultra-Trail conforms to all the environmental and technological requirements. Certain roads will be close to prioritize public transport, there will be selective recycling, reusable cups, a 368kg reduction in paper waste, etc.
Annecy 2018 says the event has also become a "life-sized" testing area, combining transmission technology, geo-tracking and computer programming to create a powerful runner tracking system which reinforces rescue operations, as well as providing the participants' entourages with regular updates.Write or read comments about this article
