At an outdoor celebration in Annecy, France Tuesday, a new logo marking the city's bid for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games was unveiled.  The event was held at the Pâquier - the proposed site for the Games' opening ceremony.

The logo is generally the same as the abstract blue mountain imagery used during the bid's domestic phase with the addition of the Olympic ring colours and the phrase "applicant city" that is required of all bid logos.

Thousands in attendance watched officials and athletes untie ribbons in the colours of the Olympic rings to unveil a large image of the redesigned logo.

Annecy bid organizers used this opportunity to kick off a trip to Lausanne for a required information seminar that will also be attended by competing bids from PyeongChang, Korea and Munich, Germany.

The bid's new look will be used throughout the campaign that ends with the final election in Durban, South Africa on July 6, 2011.
