International Ice Hockey President and International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Rene Fasel dismissed the chances of a Quebec 2020 Olympic bid Tuesday at SportAccrd.

"Don't be disappointed if you don't win," he said.

Recently the International Ski Federation (ISF) ruled that a proposed ski venue in Quebec did not meet the necessary standards - that leaves the Canadian bid with no options but to suggest the use of a venue in Lake Placid, New York.  IOC President Jacques Rogge told reporters that a cross-border bid for the Winter Games is acceptable to the IOC in order to reduce venue construction.

Salzburg, Austria's bid for the 2014 Winter Games included a sliding venue located in Germany.

But Fasel believes that Quebec would be too soon after the 2010 Games in Vancouver, also in Canada.

The IHF President also doubted the need for a third sliding venue in Canada; bob and luge tracks are currently in Calgary and Vancouver which is sufficient for a country the size of Canada.

He didn't entirely rule out the bid - he said "if you are really convinced. good luck!"
