DeFrantz Disappointed About Rogge’s Decision

Anita DeFrantz is disappointed that she won’t be able to observe IOC board meetings now that her term on the IOC executive board has expired.

Earlier this month she made a formal request to attend the meetings and discussed it with IOC president Jacques Rogge. He denied her request last week. This leaves the IOC board without any Americans as Salt Lake City prepares to stage the 2002 Winter Games.

DeFrantz said, “I have the greatest experience of anyone on the hosting of Games in the United States as it relates to the IOC so I’m said that my experience won’t be utilized during these last two meetings”, before the Salt Lake Games. But she won’t appeal Rogge’s decision.

“I’ve committed to work for the Olympic movement in any way that I can. This is one way I’m not allowed to”.

DeFrantz heads a sports foundation in Los Angeles and was involved in the 1984 Los Angeles Games, the 1996 Atlanta Games and the bid for the Salt Lake Games.
