GamesBids.com: Abuja 2014 Shooting Venue Criticized By CGF Abuja 2014 Shooting Venue Criticized By CGF ================================================================================ GB Staff on Thursday, June 7, 2007 12:00am EDT Senegalese Djamil Faye, a consultant for Abuja 2014’s Commonwealth Games bid, said the only concern of the Commonwealth Games Federation’s evaluation commission during their inspection visit to Abuja was the location of the shooting venue, but he added there was enough land to develop a range, although it would provide an “engineering challenge”. He said, “we have looked at the concerns they raised and will do something. We can offer an alternative venue that will be within the 10km range we are striving to achieve”. Faye told the News Agency of Nigeria that one of the strongest points of the bid was that the Games Village and many designated hotels would be with a 10 km range of the venues. He said, “this has never been achieved in previous Games, even at the Olympics. This is a landmark offer that is hard to be resisted by any member-country of the Commonwealth. “We have shown that in addition to solid structures many of the leisure services to be offered will be decentralized such that athletes and their accompany officials will not queue for services. Our model in the bid shows that services such as churches, mosques, food and entertainment centres will be located at various points in the village to achieve greater access by reducing waiting times. The bid is offering a swimming pool - a facility that has never been offered even at the Olympic Games”. Another strong point Faye said was the proposed deployment of wireless Internet access to all point in the village, “which has never happened before”. Abuja 2014 is offering business class tickets to presidents and the secretary general of the Commonwealth Games and training grants that would be enjoyed by all Commonwealth Games Associations.
