Madrid Officials Want To Strengthen 2016 Summer Bid
Mercedes Coghen, CEO of Madrid 2016 and Alejandro Blanco, President of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE), met with the presidents of the Spanish Olympic Federations to plan “a common approach of the main courses of action to follow in order to strengthen Madrid’s bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games”.
Following the meeting Coghen said the federations must be “the bid’s umbilical cord with the International Olympic Committee (IOC)”. She said with their cooperation it would be possible to establish a frequent dialogue with IOC members that will show them “the many charms of our city”.
In a press release Coghen said in the next few weeks individual meetings will be set up with each federation to discuss specific issues including possible improvements in the technical aspect of the bid.
Coghen also told the federations that Madrid will not only bid on sport competitions, but also on “conferences and conventions that permit a closer contact with the IOC members”.
Madrid 2012 wants to formulate a “very clear” message for its promotional campaign and is looking for a logo whose design will come from an open competition so everybody “can feel identified with the bid”. Write or read comments about this article
