Bidding For 2009 Universiades Ends
The cities of Harbin China and Erzurum Turkey have been submitted as candidates for the 2009 Winter Universiade FISU.
China has already organized the 2001 Summer Universiade in Beijing and Turkey is hosting the Summer Games next year in Izmir.
Three candidates were selected for the 2009 Summer Universiade. They are Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro; Monterrey Mexico; and Posnan Poland.
Mexico hosted in 1979 and Poland in 1993 and 2001.
The next step in the bidding procedure will be inspection visits by the Supervision Commission between October 1 and November 30. The Commission will submit its final report at the EC meeting in Innsbruck.
Meanwhile, Guangzhou was officially proclaimed the host city for the 2010 Asian Games by the 23rd Olympic Council of Asia General Assembly in Doha Qatar. It was the only candidate following the withdrawal of the other three contenders, cities in Malaysia, Korea and Jordan.
