Madrid Is One Of 2012 Favourites - Mayor
Madrid’s Mayor Alberto Ruiz-Gallardon said upon hearing that the city is on the short list to host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, “Madrid will be one of the favourites to win. He added, “a lot of value has been attached to the project, overwhelming all those involved. It has encouraged the team to work with even greater determination to win the bid. What was once a dream is now perfectly attainable”.
Madrid 2012’s CEO Feliciano Mayoral, who was present at the 2012 short list announcement commented, “this is a huge success, probably the most significant the city has had in terms of international sports, but it’s only the beginning. We have to continue working to gain the confidence and vote of the IOC. So far we have (met) the stringent technical requirements. We now have to work on getting the votes one by one”.
This is the second time Madrid has applied to host Olympic Games. The city lost to Munich in 1966. Write or read comments about this article
