Joint Baseball, Softball Olympic Bid

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

The sports of baseball and softball have agreed to unite as a single international federation in a joint bid to return to the Olympic Games, after they were dropped from the 2008 Beijing Games.

Each sport has failed in separate attempts to win reinstatement.

The two groups plan to merge into the International Baseball and Softball Federation to increase their chances of returning to the 2020 Summer Games.

Baseball federation president Riccardo Fraccari and softball head Don Porter have submitted their plans to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Their proposal is to play men's baseball and women's softball at a single venue over seven to 10 days.
