Madrid's Palacio de los Deportes, the venue for Judo and Taekwondo should Madrid host the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, was the site of thousands of fans attending a four-day festival of basketball.

Madrid 2016 head Mercedes Coghen said, "the event demonstrates once again that many of Madrid's venues are ready for the Olympics in 2016. In fact 77 per cent of the Olympic sports either have their venues ready now or are in construction. And the new venue for tennis, which we call the Magic Box, opens in May".

The eight matches in the basketball festival attracted at least 10,000 fans, said a press release, with 11,500 for the final.

Coghen added, "the Palacio de los Deportes will be a splendid venue for Judo and Taekwondo in 2016".
