Madrid 2016 Launches Games Plans At PASO Meeting
A Madrid 2016 delegation, including bid chief Mercedes Coghen, Spain's IOC member Juan Antonio Samaranch, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardon, Mayor of Madrid, and the President of the Spanish Olympic Committee Alejandro Blanco, is presenting its bid to the Pan American Sports Organisation meeting in Acapulco on Saturday.
Coghen said, "Beijing is the centre of the Chinese-speaking world and London is the historic centre of the English speaking world. We believe the moment is right for Madrid to host the Games of the Spanish speaking world and cultures".
Gallardon said, "our preparation is well underway and the city's infrastructure is advanced. Seventy per cent of all the work required for the bid is already in place. Madrid is a vibrant and exciting city. We are ready to go and - with the final decision less than a year away - we want to bring a sense of fun and passion to our bid as well as its obvious technical qualities".
