The Netherlands Hopes To Host 2028 Summer Games
International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Prince Willem-Alexander told de Volkskrant that current preparations by Olympic Vuur (Olympic Fire - the Dutch lobby platform for a 2028 Olympic bid), is a good groundwork for a possible future bid.
He said, "everyone has to think about the importance of the Olympic Games for their sector of society. From sportsmen and women, businesses, right up to the parliamentary commission for urban planning".
The prince stressed the importance of having public backing for a bid. PyeongChang had 90 per cent of public support, but it took three bids before it was successful. He said that is not likely to happen in the Netherlands - you need to win the bid in one go.
He added, "in western countries you are doing well if you have more than half the people behind you".Write or read comments about this article
