Italy's Olympic Committee To Promote Rome 2020 At Casa Italia
The National Olympic Committee of Italy (CONI) has chosen the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, London's premier purpose built conference centre, as its home during the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
CONI chief executive Raffaele Pagnozzi said that CONI hopes Casa Italia will help Italy promote Rome's bid for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.
CONI will be using the Centre for an exposition of Italian companies which will be open to the general public, for a performance centre for Italian artists, and also for hospitality for the Italian Olympic Committee and its guests.
It will also be the headquarters for Italy's Paralympic Committee.
Pagnozzi said, "compared to the 2008 Beijing Games, the main elements which played in favour of selecting the best solution when choosing the location, that is to host Casa Italia for London 2012, has been the prestige of the location, the central position of the venue, and the easiness in reaching it. In addition, the promotion for the bid of Rome 2020 has also been taken into account".
He added, "for the first time in the history of CONI the location chosen to host Casa Italia shall also be used as the headquarters for the Paralympic Committee. The total absence of architectural barriers shall provide a prestigious and functional showcase also for the people involved in the Paralympics".
