Durban Accepts Invitation To Bid For 2020 Olympic Games
South Africa's Olympic governing body SASCOC had invited four cities to apply to host the 2020 Summer Olympic Games, and of the four cities - Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg - it was announced that only Durban submitted a bid.
It was confirmed by SASCOC's CEO Tubby Reddy at the national Olympic governing body's Annual General Meeting last weekend.
A decision on whether a formal bid will be submitted to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for consideration is now up to the national government.
According to the SASCOC website, extensive investigation and feasibility studies will now be carried out.
Following the IOC session to be held in Durban next August, the IOC will send a formal invitation to countries to submit bids for the 2020 Summer Games.
