The Telegraph reports that a major political and corruption scandal involving the New Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games organizing committee could affect any future Olympic bid.

According to The Daily Telegraph Suresh Kalmadi, chairman of New Delhi 2010, has refused to resign following the resignation or suspension of three of his closest senior committee members involved in allegations of corruption.

The allegations reportedly include the staging of the Queens Baton Relay launch in London last year. One of the executive's sons had been awarded a contract to lay the tennis surface at the Games venue.

Kalmadi, a politician with the ruling Congress Party and President of the Indian Olympic Association said, "I'm not quitting, there is no question of quitting. I cannot afford to do that. The Commonwealth Games is my baby".

Sources reportedly told The Daily Telegraph that the Indian mess "has destroyed an proposed Olympic bid before one has even been launched".

The Indian government was hoping for a successful Commonwealth Games being held in October to kick start a bid for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.
