Hiroshima Mayor Tadatoshi Akiba reportedly hopes to cooperate with overseas and domestic cities in Hiroshima's bid along with Nagasaki for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.

He said, "only Hiroshima and Nagasaki can appeal for a world without nuclear and a festival of peace. The Olympics is a good stage to send messages".

The mayor reportedly said he will call for global support even before the western Japan cities make a final decision to enter the running for the 2020 Games. "It will not be difficult to raise funds globally", he said.

He added that Hiroshima hopes to drum up support from other Japanese cities.
