Reuters reports Palermo Italy has dropped out of the race for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.

Palermo's mayor Diego Cammarata said in a statement, "at this time the conditions do not exist to bid for the 2020 Olympics".

According to Reuters, city officials had proposed a bid from Palermo but Italian Olympic Committee head Gianni Petrucci criticized the lack of consultation.

Bari is reportedly considering a bid while Rome and Venice have said they were interested.
