Chicago 2016 Public Support Lower – IOC Poll
The Chicago Tribune reports a public opinion poll commissioned by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) show Chicagoans' support for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games is at 67 per cent, or 10 per cent lower than the figure Chicago officials used in their bid book based on their own polling.
A poll done by Zogby International late last year shown in Chicago's bid book showed 77 per cent support.
The Tribune reports Chicago 2016 spokesman Patrick Sandusky declined to comment on the poll number saying, "that is for the IOC to report", referring to the IOC's evaluation commission report to be released a month before the 2016 bid host city is elected in October.
Madrid 2016 officials released Thursday the results of the IOC's poll on public support for the Olympics in their city.
Manuel Cobo, vice mayor of Madrid, told a press conference the IOC polling showed 85 per cent public support for Madrid's bid, close to the 89 per cent support from the city in polling commissioned by the bid committee and included in its bid book.
