It's On To Rio 2016
Rio 2016 will receive the Olympic Flag and invite the world to visit the 2016 Games in Rio in an eight-minute presentation Sunday evening at the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
The motto of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games is "A City Leaps Forward" and Brazilian children will present a video outlining the city's plans to build venues and infrastructure.
The eight-minute ceremony will feature diva Marisa Monte, international top model Alessandra Ambrosio, Renato Sorriso - a garbage collector who is a samba dancer and a symbol of Rio de Janeiro's carnival, 82 drummers, and rapper BnNegao.
The ceremony will include 225 dancers and musicians illustrating "multicultural embrace". The volunteer dancers were selected from among 800 candidates.
Dancers will wear outfits which include gold lame flared body suits. According to the artistic directors, the presentation will feature "pure samba" with roots in Brazilian percussion.
The Closing Ceremony will be divided into four pillars that will approach entertainment, cultural diversity, the contagious energy of the Brazilian people, and finally the invitation to all nations to visit Rio de Janeiro in four years.
Rio 2016 officials will receive the Olympic flag at the ceremony.
The Rio 2016 Games will be staged in four areas - at Copacabana Beach, The Olympic Park being built at Barra, in Deodoro and at the Maracana.
The Maracana football stadium, the venue for the 1950 World Cup, is being redeveloped for the 2014 finals which Brazil is also hosting, and the Rio 2016 Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
Rio 2016 organizers said construction is on time and they were "delivering on our promises" to transform the city and transportation network.
They said that London Games organizers Locog had been sharing information with them on how to organize a Games.
Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes praised London on Friday for an "outstanding" Olympic Games.
