Over half-a-million votes have been cast in an unscientific online GamesBids.com poll asking readers who they would like to see win the 2016 Olympic Games bid.

The Rio bid committee and online Tokyo supporters have been actively promoting the poll and have urged others to vote - and vote often.

To date Rio leads by about 16,000 votes with 258,415 and Tokyo is in second with 242,182.

Chicago and Madrid supporters have not caught on.  Chicago has 8,579 votes and Madrid has 6,045.

The real election is among IOC members who vote for a winner in Copenhagen on Friday.
