Barcelona To Bid For 2022 Winter Games
The City of Barcelona officially launched a bid Wednesday for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. Xinhua reports the city wants to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its Summer Games, which was a great success.
A Barcelona-Pirineus 2022 bid would see events held in the city and in the ski station in Pyrenees mountains to the north.
Barcelona's Mayor Jordi Hereu said, "Barcelona has a good chance and wants to relive the Olympic dream. The city is ready and already has the experience".
He added, "there is no technical reason that impedes Barcelona from being a host city for the Winter Olympic Games".
The Spanish Olympic Committee will have a choice between Barcelona and Zaragosa-Jaca as its candidate city.
No city has ever hosted both the Summer and Winter Games.
