Chicago 2016, Tokyo 2016 Attend Mediterranean Games
Delegations from Chicago 2016 and Tokyo 2016 are in Pescara, Italy to attend the Mediterranean Games being held June 26 to July 5, to promote their bids for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
Chicago's delegation includes Chicago 2016 Chairman and CEO Patrick Ryan and Vice Chairman Mike Roberts.
Ryan said in a press release, "the Mediterranean Games offer countries from around the Mediterranean the opportunity to come together and compete in friendly competition and promote sport in the region. We share in the excitement of the Games and its ability to promote the ideals of international competition".
Dr. Ichiro Kono, Chair and CEO of Tokyo 2016 said, "we're looking forward to experiencing tonight's Pescara 2009 Opening Ceremony at Stadio Adriatico. The event is likely to be filled with emotion, and rightfully so, given that the region has shown immeasurable courage in recovering from the recent disaster. The Mediterranean Games will demonstrate sport's ability to bring people together to overcome any challenge, inspiring us and further strengthening our resolve to host the biggest international sport event in the heart of Japan's vibrant capital".
Following their visit to Pescara, the Tokyo 2016 delegates will attend the 1st Asian Youth Games in Singapore June 29, the ANOCA General Assembly in Abuja, Nigeria July 6, join the 4th International Paralympic Day in Berlin Germany July 11, and watch the FINA Swimming World Championships in Rome Italy starting on July 18.
