USOC Possible Financial Deal With IOC Could Pave Way For Olympic Bid

USOC chief executive Scott Blackmun said he is optimistic he can reach an agreement with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on financing future Games, which could pave the way for a future Olympic bid.

A two year sponsorship deal last month between Dow Chemical Co. and Procter & Gamble will reportedly boost revenues. Blackmun told The Associated Press.  "It gives us revenues we didn't have before so in that sense it kind of makes the pie bigger for everyone".

The USOC and the IOC are negotiating how much the USOC should pay toward the administrative costs of staging the Olympics - a first step toward a possible revision of the revenue-sharing agreement.

Blackmun said, "on that issue the cost of the Games and other revenue issues, we feel very optimistic".

Blackmun said the USOC would not submit a bid to host an Olympic Games until a financial agreement has been reached with the IOC. He said, "it's very awkward to be bidding at the same time we're having heated discourse over revenue negotiations", adding that Charlotte, North Carolina is interested in hosting a Youth Olympics, and Lake Placid, New York expressed an interest in staging the Winter Youth Olympics.
