Los Angeles 2016 Reacts To Loss
L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and members of Los Angeles 2016 said at a city hall news conference that staging the 2016 Summer Olympic Games along a lakefront proved to be an edge for Chicago over Los Angeles.
Barry Sanders, chairman of the South Committee for the Olympic Games said, “this was a tough race and Chicago won and we salute them”. He said the Los Angeles Olympics effort united the state in ways seldom seen, with all 53 members of the House of Representatives and both U.S. senators supporting the idea. “You don’t get that kind of support very often”, adding that the $1.1 million spent on Los Angeles’ Olympic bid was privately raised.
The Mayor said Los Angeles officials are anxious to help Chicago overcome competition from international cities to host the 2016 Games, reports CBS. “we’re ready and willing to stand with Chicago. We’re still proud to be home to more athletes than any other city in the world”. Write or read comments about this article
