During the evening Sochi will host a "grand" event in the Bolshoi Ice Palace where Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), will invite selected NOCs to symbolically mark the sending of invitations to the NOCs around the world.

Following the official ceremony there will be an ice show directed by Sochi 2014 Ambassador and figure skater Ilya Averbukh, featuring several of Russia's most loved figure skating stars.
More than 300 participants will take part in the show which will tell the story of the preparations for the Sochi 2014 Games, from the moment the city won the bid in 2007. The evening will end with a fireworks display.Write or read comments about this article
