Sri Lankan Cabinet Approves 2018 Commonwealth Bid
The Sri Lankan cabinet has approved a 2018 Commonwealth Games bid for the Hambantota district of Sri Lanka.
Reports say it's part of the government's plan for Hambantota.
The Sunday Leader reports that with the recent opening of a port, upcoming construction of an international airport, convention centre, etc., the government envisions transforming the rural and economically undeveloped southern province into one of five economic centres in the country.
The 2010 Commonwealth Games are being held in India and the 2014 Games will be in Scotland.
